‘I want a greater role for faith groups’

Far from objecting to religious leader and groups commenting on political issues, Scottish Secretary JIM MURPHYwelcomes the contribution from those who know their community instinctively, especially in these difficult times
I WANT a greater role for faith groups in delivering government services. This is something I feel really strongly about. There’s a whole network of people of faith with strong links to their communities who could be helping others get the benefits or skills they need to find work. I believe Government can do more to bring them on-board and utilise their expertise. Government can support the natural instinct and work of faith groups who go about their business trying to help the vulnerable. I would like a new partnership which harnesses the goodwill of faith and the funding of government. It is a partnership which also respects the special and independent role and voice of the Churches and other faith groups.
